Rare and very expensive. Most Alexandrite will exhibit some color-change properties, the most
expensive Alexandrite is green when you're outside and red/purple under artificial light. This
special property makes it one of the phenomenal gems. Old Russian imperial colors are green and
red, and since it was discovered in 1830 around the 21st birthday of Czar Alexander II, it was
named Alexandrite.
Mystical Properties:Alexandrite is considered key
in bringing luck to the wearer. Worn near the heart, it is said to bring luck in Love
as it is thought to harmonize male
and female energies.
Healing Properties: Said to have a positive effect on
the nervous and glandular systems, such as the spleen, pancreas and testicles.
Scientific Properties:Composed of Beryllium
Aluminum Oxide, this gemstone is a variety of Chrysoberyl and a close cousin to
the Cat's Eye. The bi-color properties
of Alexandrite are due to pleochroism. Originally discovered in Russia, it is also mined in Ceylon.
