Colorado Amazonite Jewelry

Amazonite (or Colorado Amazonite) is most commonly a pale to intense Aqua to Turquoise colored variety of opaque microcline feldspar that gets its name from the Amazon River, where it was first discovered. The deeper aqua varieties even rival the stunning Aqua or Turquoise color of the extremely expensive Peruvian Blue Opal. This variety of Amazonite is always a little more pastel than its vibrantly teal colored Russian Amazonite cousin. One of our favorite semi-precious gemstones, it is less expensive than most of the other Turquoise colored gemstones but, in many cases, just as bright in color.

Mystical Properties: Wearing Amazonite Jewelry is said to aid those wishing to develop clairvoyant abilities and is sometimes recommended as a companion when doing Tarot, I Ching, readings, etc.

Scientific Properties: Composed of blue green Microcline (K-Feldspar) with trace amounts of copper. The best specimens are found near Crystal Peak, Colorado. Also found near the Amazon River, Virginia, Brazil, India, Russia, and Madagascar. Hardness: 6 on the Moh's Hardness Scale
