Calcite is a common, very soft
gemstone which comes in a rainbow of colors, though is usually
yellow and rarely blue in gem grade.
Metamorphosed (i.e. heated) Calcite is known as
Marble and is
often used to adorn buildings. Calcite is the main mineral composing
limestone and the stalagmites and stalactites in caves.
Mystical Properties: Because of its
bi-refringent properties, wearing Calcite Jewelry is mystically thought to double the intention of
its wearer, i.e., it serves as a psychicamplifier. Because of this amplifying ability, and because Calcite
is excreted by living creatures, many religious structures have been composed of
marble and
limestone and believed to mystically increase the power of prayer.
Yellow Calcite is also often considered the mental stone as it enhances
intellect. Recommended as a study aid and to improve wisdom and mental harmony.

Dolomite, a form of Calcite, is harder because some of the Calcium ions are replaced by
Magnesium during the metamorphic process. Dolomite
(or Marble) is identified in the field as being heavier
and darker in color. It also fizzes less readily than Calcite.
Calcite is found commonly throughout the world. 2.5 - 3 on the Moh's Hardness Scale.
Owner Warning! Because
Calcite is extremely soft, it should not be
worn every day. Use extreme caution in
cleaning this mineral as it is easily
broken down by most solvents.
