The 10th layer of the city of God is said to be lined in Chrysoprase--which was thought to represent the work of the martyrs and the blessings they received from these selfless works. Others attribute the stone to lack of tolerance toward sinners.

Alexander the Greek was rumored to have one on his saddle that he took into battle with him. It was reputed lost during his Indian campaign--allegedly bitten off by a snake and dropped into the river.
