Denim Lapis Jewelry

Denim Lapis is the trade name for a lower grade of Lapis Lazuli. Less expensive, Denim Lapis generally comes from Chile and typically has a higher percentage of white matrix. This white and navy blue mix gives Denim Lapis a less intense blue color similar to a faded pair of jeans--hence the name. This is NATURAL, untreated Lapis. Lapis is associated with the 6th Chakra, or 3rd Eye.

Crushed Lapis used to comprise the ancient and very valuable pigment ultramarine.

Healing Properties: Most commonly thought to bring peace and soothe depression.

Scientific Properties: Composed of Lazurite (Sodium Calcium Aluminum Sulfate Silicate) with various other minerals, such as Pyrite.

Most of the Lapis at vendors/department stores is Chilean Lapis dyed to imitate the very expensive Afghanistan Lapis. Yes--it really is Lapis--but the bad news? Lapis does not take dye well and as soon as your item gets wet or you try to clean it--even in water--the dye comes off quite easily. How can you be sure? Wet your finger and rub the stone.
