The blue coloring in the recently discovered blue quartzite (Blue Aventurine) mines in Brazil are colored by Dumortierite. Dumortierite is usually distinguished from Lapis or Sodalite by its fibrous, dusty and deeper denim blue appearance. Lapis will have the characteristic gold flecks and Sodalite will usually have white calcite runners.

An ore of Boron, Dumortierite is found in the Western U.S., where it was mined for spark plug ceramics as it is quite hard and durable. 7 on the Moh's Hardness Scale
