FAQ - Esoteric

"What is a Chakra?"

Hindu Ayuvedic and many Healing Touch and other Natural Healers believe the body has several "energy vortex points" in the body.  This energy is sometimes called Prana or Ch'i and refers to the life energy that runs through us all. Sometimes Chakra energy is over-active and needs to be subdued. Other times a Chakra may close itself off from painful experiences and need opening. Some gems, stones and crystals are thought to help clear the energy and keep it moving in a healthy way through the body.

"Where are these Chakras?"

The 1st Chakra is at the base of the spine, called the "Root Chakra" and is key to the foundation in your life--security, the physical plane. The 2nd Chakra, called the "Sacral Chakra" located between the naval and the pubic bone, governs the kidneys, colds and spleen. It's also key to the life force and sexual activity. The 3rd Chakra, called the "Naval Chakra" rules the Liver, Stomach and Pancreas and is located approximately at the Naval. It is thought to govern gut instinct, energy reserves. The 4th Chakra is called the "Heart Chakra", sits at heart level and governs the Lungs, Heart and Lymph nodes. It is thought important for self-love, love of others and spirituality. From this Chakra comes emotional balance. The 5th Chakra, the "Throat Chakra", lies at the throat, and governs the Thyroid and Parathyroid. It is thought important in balancing female-male (yin-yang) energies and in communicating. The 6th Chakra, also called the "Third Eye", is located in the middle of the forehead and governs the Nerves and Endocrine System. From there psychic powers emanate, and it's where the ability to meditate comes from. The final 7th Chakra, is called the "Crown Chakra" and sits atop the head. It is said to govern metabolism and your basic cell composition. This Chakra is said to bring us one-ness with God and the universe.

"What Do Gemstones and Crystals have to do with Chakras?"

Certain stones are thought to be "in tune" with Chakras and have either a "subduing" effect or an "opening" effect.

"Why would a Chakra need opening or subduing?"

A Chakra would need subduing if the energy was running astray. For instance, if the 5th Throat Chakra had run away energy, perhaps the person talks too much, or says things they don't mean. They'd like to stop this. Sapphire, Aquamarine and Turquoise are said to subdue 5th Chakra energy and a Sapphire, Aquamarine or Turquoise necklace could help. On the other side, someone has a tough time talking, doesn't want to communicate--even refuses to. This could indicate the 5th Chakra has closed. Kyanite, Blue Topaz and Azurite are thought to open the 5th Chakra. Closed/Over-active Chakras are thought to occur from unresolved painful experiences in our lives.

"What wrist should I wear my bracelet on?"

For right-handed persons, energy is said to come INTO the body through the left side. Energy is sent OUT the right side. For instance, say you purchased a Turquoise bracelet for luck. I would suggest wearing it on the left wrist (to receive the luck of the universe).  For left-handers, the polarity is reversed (i.e., wear the bracelet on the right and use the left hand).
