Jasper was often mentioned as bringing rain by American Indians. The word for Jasper in some American Indian cultures meant rain-bringer, while the ancient Aztecs favored all green stones, including green jasper. The Japanese of the Iron Age buried Jasper amulets called Magatama with their dead.

Jaspers, in general, are mentioned as being the Patron Stone to Counselors and Therapists and is assigned an overall healing gemstone by Natural Healers. Thought important for women during childbirth--holding a piece of Jasper in the hand during childbirth is said to help relieve pain and guard the mother and child. Other protective/healing effects are determined by the color of the stone:

Yellow Solar Plexus, Intelligence, Concentration.
Red Protection. Beauty and grace to young women. Bronchials, fevers and lower Chakras. Defensive magic.
Brown Grounding, centering, self-esteem.
Green General healer. Stomach problems, hallucinations, restful sleep.
