Pewter JewelryPewter Jewelry

Pewter is an alloy of the metal Tin, usually made up of mostly Tin, with some Antimony and Copper. Much Pewter coming from China these days contains Lead, so be sure to ask!
Mystical Properties: Since Tin is the metal associated with Jupiter, the most beneficent of planets, Pewter is thought to bring good fortune to its wearer.

Wearing Pewter is said to attract money to oneself.

Ancient Alchemists believed putting Tin in a tank full of ants on a certain night, would turn tin into silver.

There is mention of using Tin on New Year's Eve to predict events of the coming year. Tin was melted, then thrown into a vat of cool water. The nodules created were then interpreted to foretell the coming year.

Pewter was originally Tin alloyed with Lead, however today, it is made with Copper and Antimony as we now know Lead is poisonous.

In olden days, Pewter was fashioned into goblets and plates for the wealthy. Pewter never tarnishes and is strong enough to hold up to everyday use.

In Western and Eastern Astrology, Jupiter is associated with the signs of Sagittarius and Pisces.

Ancient Egyptians believed Tin and Lead to be the same metal, in different forms. Tin is found in Ancient Egyptian burial sites.

The traditional gift of the 10th Wedding Anniversary.

Healing Properties: Placed upon the forehead, thought to reduce headaches. Placed on the chest, thought to help with lung ailments.

Scientific Properties: Composed of the metallic element, Tin and usually alloyed with Copper and Antimony.

Tin is a relatively light silvery-white metal, only about a specific gravity is 7.3, making it about 7 times heavier than water. It is easily worked at low temperatures (212 degrees F).

The ore of Tin is called Cassiterite (Tin Dioxide) and was found abundantly in Cornwall, England in medieval times. Other important Localities include: Germany, the Malay Peninsula, Bolivia, Brazil, Australia and Alaska's Seward Peninsula.

Tin bars when broken, give off a distinctive sound, called a Tin Cry which is actually the sound made by the Tin atoms breaking apart.
