** Information on this Gemstone **
Mystical Properties: Sardonyx is thought to be the first gemstone (Odem) in the Hebrew Breastplate of the High Priest. Revelations describes the city of God as having the 5th (and possibly the 6th) layer made from Sardonyx.
Wearing Sardonyx Jewelry is thought to imbue a gift for relationships and help the wearer be more virtuous in their every day dealings. Also said to improve confidence and self-esteem.
As with most banded or whorled gemstones, Sardonyx is thought to trap the wearer's emotional pain in the banding.
Ancient Arabians and Poles both considered Sardonyx an August birthstone.
Healing Properties: Unhappiness. Depression. Nervous system disorders.
Scientific Properties: Sardonyx is composed of banded Silicon Dioxide (Agate/Chalcedony). Hardness: 6.0-7.0 on the Moh's Hardness Scale.
Buyer Beware! Beware of Calcite being passed off as Sardonyx. True Sardonyx is quite hard, whereas Calcite can easily be scratched with a fingernail.
