Mystical Properties: Moonstone is most commonly associated with foretelling the future during the full or waning of the moon. In India the stone is associated with the Third Eye or 6th Chakra. To achieve the desired clairvoyance and answers to questions, the stone is placed in the mouth before bed. The answer is said to come in dreams during the night.
This stone is often given to young lovers in India to help them discern what their life will be like together.
Hindu Astrology believes Moonstone to be a secondary gem of Cancer and is considered sacred to those born on Monday (Moon Day).

Healing Properties: Said to help kidney problems. A feminine stone, it is said to have calming properties.
Scientific Properties: Moonstone can be two minerals: Orthoclase Feldspar (Potassium Aluminum Silicate) or sometimes Albite Plagioclase Feldspar (Sodium Aluminum Silicate).
The luminescence characteristic of Moonstone is caused by different refractive indices of two types of feldspars. This phenomenon is called shiller or adularescence.
Found in Sri Lanka, Burma, Central and Southern India. In the U.S., in Virginia and Pennsylvania. 6-6.5 on the Moh's Hardness Scale.
Buyer Beware! This stone can be confused with selenite gypsum (selenite is very soft and can be scratched with a fingernail while Moonstone is relatively hard).
