** Information on this Gemstone **
Mystical Properties: Genuine, natural Sugilite is considered one of the most powerful psychic gems.
Wearing Sugilite Jewelry is most commonly mentioned as helping on tune in on the power of the 3rd Eye or 6th Chakra, therefore increasing psychic abilities. It is said to provide a barrier from all negativity, both physical and non-physical. Sugilite is believed effective against psychic vampirism where the spirit and energy of an individual is being sapped away--either by an individual or situation.
There are those who associate Sugilite with Pluto, as they were contemporaries in discovery. Therefore it is said to be in tune with the Plutonian sign of Scorpio in Western Astrology.
To cleanse the stone, it should be placed in full sunlight (or moonlight) for a day (or night).
Healing Properties: Brain function and all nervous disorders, clears negativity, strengthens the empathic against psychic assault.
Scientific Properties: Composed of a complex silicate of Potassium, Sodium, Iron, Lithium, Manganese and Aluminum of the Osmulite group (volcanic).
Found in only a few locales in the world, the first in Japan, which has been mined out. Two other localities are listed: India and South Africa. 6.5- 7.5 on the Moh's Hardness Scale.
Buyer Beware! Because of the extreme rareness of this highly prized gemstone, fakes have been popping up in the last few years. Purple Lepidolite is very often passed off as Sugilite, however, Lepidolite is MUCH softer and easily scratched by a knife (Sugilite will not be scratched by a knife). Block Cut or Reconstituted Sugilite, is genuine Sugilite, however it is the ground up tailings of Sugilite, then reconstituted, usually with added dye. A dead give away? The stones will be very evenly colored and usually resembles an extremely high grade gemstone and at what seems like a bargain price. Spurrite, also softer than Sugilite, looks quite similar, though will usually be smaller in size and have a dusty, less intense purple coloring. If you are not paying an alarming amount for Sugilite, be extremely suspicious!
