Healing Properties: Said to help kidney problems. A feminine stone, it is said to have calming properties.

Scientific Properties: Moonstone can be two minerals: Orthoclase Feldspar (Potassium Aluminum Silicate) or sometimes Albite Plagioclase Feldspar (Sodium Aluminum Silicate).

The luminescence characteristic of moonstone is caused by different refractive indices of two types of feldspars. This phenomenon is called shiller or adularescence.

Found in Sri Lanka, Burma, Central and Southern India. In the U.S., in Virginia and Pennsylvania. 6-6.5 on the Moh's Hardness Scale.

Buyer Beware! This stone can be confused with selenite gypsum (selenite is very soft and can be scratched with a fingernail while Moonstone is relatively hard).
